The first week in August is Dental Health Week, so we’re also taking a look at teeth. As GP’s, particularly rural GPs, we have patients presenting as a result of dental disease almost on a daily basis. For most of us, our undergraduate teaching barely touched on problems in the mouth, and it’s certainly an area where further resources could come in handy.
This month we share another webinar excerpt, and it’s your chance to learn more about Dental Disease and what to do about it.
This is Part 1 of a 3 part series on Oral Health with Dr Ioan Jones, senior clinician and clinical educator with the Oral Health Services in Tasmania. Ioan is passionate about educating general practitioners about Oral Disease, as he fully appreciates the high number of presentations that are diverted to general practice due to various barriers in accessing dental care. Ioan promotes upskilling general practitioners to enable them to cope with these presentations, and put “the mouth back in the body”.
Below is Part 1: Dental Disease. Watch out for Part 2 – Dental Trauma and Part 3 – Oral Soft Tissue Lesions in the future.
It’s also world breastfeeding week the same week as dental health week, and while there are many links between breastfeeding and dental health, we might save that discussion for another day.
