RVTS training update – Winter/Spring 2022

by Dr Ronda Gurney, RVTS Director of Training

It’s the end of August – 2022 is more than halfway done, and so much has been achieved this year!

Dr Ronda Gurney, RVTS Director of Training.

Welcome to the 22.2 Cohort who joined training at the end of June – it’s great to have you on board, and we hope that you enjoy your training with the RVTS family.

Welcome to the new supervisors who have joined as well, and thank you to the supervisors who returned to provide support to our registrars (or expanded their role to do so for this cohort).

The 2022 Grand Round webinar, Hypotheticals – the ‘near misses’ that haunt us all, was well received at the end of July – it was great to connect again with current and past registrars and supervisors, along with Clinical Teaching Visitors, Medical Educators and Directors. There were some great points to learn…so if you missed out on attending, be sure to subscribe to the RVTS4GPs Blog and podcast, as we will share excerpts from the session.

Some updates for our registrars:

Exams – Well done to the registrars who attempted various written exams over the past few weeks: ACRRM’s MCQ and RACGP’s AKT and KFP exams were delivered without incident, and we wish you all the best for those results. The Fellowship Exam Prep team are now preparing for the upcoming Exam Prep Webinar Series and Bootcamps scheduled to take place soon. Registrars should inform their RTC of exam intentions to ensure that you are invited to these popular and beneficial educational activities. Registrars are eligible to attend Exam Prep Webinars and Bootcamps once they’ve enrolled in the exam segment. Prior to that, information, resources and practice questions can be viewed in the Fellowship Exam Prep Course on RVTS Online.

Webinars – After a break to consolidate some of the learning from the previous semester, this semester (August to December) is underway, and is jam-packed with important topics to cover in the College curricula. As always, pre-webinar resources are available in the cohort course on RVTS Online with material to prepare for the session. We encourage active participation during the webinar to get the most out of the discussion – come with your cases and questions to gain additional insights from your peers and presenters. Often, webinar discussions uncover personal learning gaps, which can then be discussed with your supervisor.

Workshops – We’re fast approaching the 22.2 Workshop due to take place in Brisbane in the last week of September. Planning is well underway for a variety of practical skills and communication stations, and we look forward to connecting with all RVTS registrars face-to-face. If the Mini-Workshop at the end of May is anything to go by, the Brisbane workshop is going to be another happy reunion and an opportunity to connect and establish bonds.

RVTS Online has been upgraded in the past few months, with some very positive feedback received. The platform is the central hub for all resources and information, and is complemented with the RVTS Online App to ensure you have all the information at your fingertips. We welcome any feedback you may have following the upgrade.

We look forward to another productive and stimulating quarter ahead!
