Sara Wilby

How long you have worked with RVTS?

Since April 2021.

Tell us about your childhood – where were you raised?

I was born and grew up in Albury.

What is one of your earliest memories from your childhood or youth?

Family holidays to Queensland, all piled in the car making multiple 1 or 2 night stops in small rural or coastal towns along the way until we reached our destination...then repeating that on the return trip.

Did you spend much time in rural Australia – and if so, where?

I used to own a small hobby farm in Koetong, Victoria, which is located about halfway between Albury and Corryong and has a population of 20. While there were many challenges faced, including bushfires, no phone service or town water, the beauty of the snow, rainfall and community spirit were highlights.

What field did you train in once you left high school?

I studied Business Administration at TAFE then started a Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Wollongong, and I have just recently completed a Diploma of Criminal Justice.

What does your role at RVTS involve?

Co-ordination of the application and selection process of the new registrars we welcome to the program each year.

What appeals to you most about working with us?

The small team at RVTS is like a family. Everyone brings something different to the table, but we all have a common interest and enthusiasm for the future of rural and remote general practice in Australia.

What are some of the countries you have travelled to – and what were your favourite destinations?

Outside Australia, I have travelled to Indonesia, Thailand, the United Kingdom and France. My favourite destination was probably a small island in Indonesia which my whole extended family travelled to together (by a very small, dodgy boat) to celebrate a family birthday.

I prefer to travel within and discover Australia. Each year I travel with my children to Tathra, NSW in June. We are always in awe witnessing the diverse Australian landscape, and being able to experience the snow and the beach in the same day.

Thanks very much for letting us know a little more about you, Sara!
